School districts in Michigan most often align their technology curriculum to the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) National Education Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S). In Michigan a slightly different version of these standards were created called the Michigan Educational Technology Standards (METS.) This set of standards has not been updated for a few years and most districts are adopting the NETS-S rather than the METS. The NETS-S is scheduled to be updated in the coming year. There are no plans to update the METS.
In Muskegon county, a group of educators has worked over the last two years to integrate the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts (CCSS ELA) with the ISTE NETS-S into a document which was to serve as a guide. The document, created for each grade level, includes web resources aligned to each of these standards. It has been reviewed by county technology teachers and curriculum directors.
