Course Overview

Students are introduced to the teaching profession through lessons on human growth and development, classroom diversity, ethics, professional responsibility, health, and safety. They also gain valuable experience by working with students in local classrooms across a variety of subjects, settings, and grade levels.

CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications as available as well as credentials like the Child Development Associate (CDA) for Infant-Toddler and Preschool, Michigan Youth Development Associate (Mi-YDA), and the Behavior Analyst Credential.

Related careers include classroom, special education, or substitute teachers, school counselors, library/media specialists, principals, corporate trainers, and childcare providers.

College Credit

Students who successfully complete this course may receive articulated college credit to the following schools:  Adrian College, Baker College, Davenport University, Ferris State University, Gogebic Community College, Mid Michigan College, Mott Community College, North Central Michigan College, Northern Michigan University, and Saginaw  Valley State University.

Students who successfully complete the Teacher Academy program may receive direct college credit to Grand Valley State University.
