Positive Behavioral Support (PBS)

  • is a data based approach toward behavior
  • concentrates on adjusting the system that supports the student
  • is implemented by a collaborative, school-based team using person - centered planning
  • the emphasis of intervention is on skill building
  • can require time (months to years) and patience to develop responsive systems; personalized settings; and appropriate, empowering, and enduring skills
  • is supported by the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services, for use with behaviorally challenged individuals.

If a student doesn't know how to read, we teach.
If a student doesn't know how to swim, we teach.
If a student doesn't know how to multiply, we teach.
If a student doesn't know how to behave, we... punish?

John Herner

"Every student has an inherent right to grow and realize maximum potential."
